“I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers"

“I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” Anne of Green Gables. Not only do I get to celebrate my birthday but I also get to see my favourite fall colours everywhere I look. October brings with it pumpkin spice and everything nice. Ushering in the festivities- gathering of families and friends, sharing of heart-warming foods, laughter, hugs and kisses. Here are a few simple ways you can get your home ready for the season ...

Get the Fire burning

We often forget that fire not only brings warmth to a room, but it also adds a splash of colour. Moreover, the crackling sound of wood burning soothes and relaxes the mind especially after a busy day. Curl up by the fireplace with your favourite drink, music and unwind. If you do not have a fireplace, you can use wood-wick candles for an almost similar effect.

Make it Cozy & Snug

Bring out all your favourite woven throw blankets and switch out the light-weight summer throw pillows/covers for fury or luxe velvet ones rich in fall colours and patterns. If possible, coordinate the blankets pillows and draperies to create a congruous and stunning look.

Flowers

“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.” Albert Camus. Nothing brightens up your home for the season like vases or guards filled with fall flowers. If you are skeptic about fresh flowers, you can create or purchase stunning arrangements of artificial flowers from the dollar store. You can set them on your mantel, dining table or your entryway console table.

Oh Candles

Candles are a great addition when decorating. They add colour, smell and style to a room. Get scents such as pumpkin spice, apple and cinnamon to get the room smelling yummy. I liked this idea presented by hgtv magazine to fill lanterns or tall glass hurricanes with pillar candles surrounded by coffee beans, acorns or candy corn to create a charming display for your entryway or front porch. Note: Just like the fireplace, you always have to keep an eye on the flames.

Ambient Music

Set the mood right with your favourite selection of relaxing music, whether that is smooth jazz,

R & B or classic rock. Let it be the background music which your guests can enjoy listening to over dinner and will not interfere with conversations in the room.
