How You can Practice Wellness at Home

Updated: Oct 3, 2020

Your home should be a sanctuary but it can often feel like a zoo. You may come home and feel stressed out about everything that needs to be cleaned, put away or organized. How can you relax and feel well when you have so much to do around the house? Fortunately, there are ways to practice wellness at home that will help you feel energized and rested when you spend time there. These are small things you can do throughout the week that can add up to a big difference in the long run. Here are ways to practice wellness at home.

Pick a Small Project

Pick something small that you can do to make your home a little warmer. It can be anything from painting a wall to hanging a photograph. Maybe you need to change some light bulbs to make the lighting better in your living room. Whatever it is, make sure it is small and doable. Better yet, try to pick something that will make you feel happy too! The sense of accomplishment you get from finishing a little project will help you feel great and give you the motivation to take on a larger task.

Clean Up a Little

If your home is messy, then you may feel overwhelmed every time you go to clean something. If you have kids, then you can probably attest to the fact that something becomes dirty seconds after you clean it! So, it can sometimes feel useless trying to clean up, even when you know you should. Instead of trying to clean the entire house in one go, focus on one small part at a time. Take 10 – 15 minutes to clean up one section of your home. Tackle the kids’ toy box, downsize that pile of mail by the door or get the kitchen back in order. Everything else can wait.

Switch to Organic

Take a look at your cleaning supplies. Are they good for you? Some of the ingredients in cleaners can be harmful, so start changing your cleaners to more natural ingredients. You can take this project one bottle at a time. When one cleaning supply runs out, look for a more natural, organic replacement. If you enjoy making things yourself, you can easily make many household cleaners with inexpensive ingredients.

Claim Your Space

Have an area that can be a calming space for you, no matter what. This can be your bed, a couch or an entire room. This should be your space to relax and be yourself. You should be able to always head there when you need to recharge. Focus on making it to your liking, whether that means changing colors, getting rid of clutter or doing a complete overhaul. Make it work for you so you can always find security in that area.

Finding wellness at home can sometimes be work because home is not always a happy and relaxing place. However, you can make small changes so you will feel less stressed and more peaceful every time you walk into the door. When you do this, you are able to feel more rested and able to look for ways to practice wellness in other areas of your life.
